In a major political development, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has granted automatic return tickets to all its current members in the National Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The announcement was made by the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who confirmed that the decision has the full support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Speaking to reporters in Abuja, Ganduje said the move is aimed at strengthening party unity, rewarding loyalty, and maintaining legislative experience within the party’s ranks.
*_“This decision has the backing of the President and reflects the party’s resolve to maintain continuity and stability in the National Assembly,”_* Ganduje said.
The Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, also commented on the development. Speaking to LEADERSHIP newspaper yesterday, Uzodimma said he will fully support and abide by the party’s decision.
*_“I stand by the position of the party. Whatever is best for unity and victory, we will support,”_* the governor stated.
The automatic ticket policy means that serving APC Senators and House of Representatives members will not have to go through party primaries to contest for re-election, provided they remain in good standing with the party leadership and have no unresolved disciplinary issues.
The move has already stirred political discussions within the party and among stakeholders, as it could affect the ambitions of many hopefuls seeking to contest in 2027 under the APC platform.
